Neuer Experte für interventionelle und diagnostische Neuroradiologie
Prof. Dr. med. Behme erforscht den Einsatz von KI in der Auswertung digitaler Bilddaten und untersucht die Sicherheit und Effektivität neuer Verfahren in der Diagnostik und Therapie von Schlaganfällen, Hirnblutungen und anderen komplexen Gefäßveränderungen im Gehirn und Rückenmark. Seit 1. Mai ist Prof. Dr. med. Daniel Behme dem Ruf an die Medizinische Fakultät der Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg gefolgt und besetzt die W2-Professur für Interventionelle und Präventive Neuroradiologie in der Universitätsklinik für Radiologie und Nuklearmedizin Magdeburg. Ein Schwerpunkt der Tätigkeit liegt hierbei auf der Erforschung des Schlaganfalls. Der Schlaganfall zählt deutschlandweit zu den häufigsten Todesursachen und ist einer der Hauptgründe für eine schwere Behinderung.
Den Standort Magdeburg sieht Prof. Dr. med. Behme auch im Bereich der innovativen Bildgebung unter anderem mit dem derzeit europaweit leistungsstärksten 7-Tesla-Magnetresonanztomografen (MRT) der Universität Magdeburg und der interdisziplinären Forschungsstruktur am Forschungscampus STIMULATE im Bereich minimal-invasive Medizintechnik hervorragend aufgestellt. In seiner Funktion als Arbeitsgruppenleiter „Neuro Clinic“ am Magdeburger Forschungscampus STIMULATE hat er bereits verschiedene Projekte zur virtuellen Behandlungsplanung realisiert. Zudem forscht Prof. Dr. med. Behme zusammen mit weiteren STIMULATE-Beteiligten im Industrie-und-Klinik Modellvorhaben „SOFINA“ zur Optimierung der fluiddynamischen Behandlung intrakranieller Aneurysmen mit neurovaskulären Stents (sog. Flow-Divertern).

Prof. Dr. med. Behme is researching the use of AI in the evaluation of digital image data and investigating the safety and effectiveness of new procedures in the diagnosis and therapy of strokes, cerebral hemorrhages and other complex vascular changes in the brain and spinal cord. Since May 1, Prof. Dr. med. Daniel Behme has accepted the call to the Medical Faculty of Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg and occupies the W2 professorship for Interventional and Preventive Neuroradiology in the University Department of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine Magdeburg. One focus of his work is the research of stroke. Stroke is one of the most frequent causes of death in Germany and one of the main reasons for severe disability.
Prof. Dr. med. Behme also considers the location Magdeburg to be excellently positioned in the field of innovative imaging, among other things with the currently most powerful 7 Tesla magnetic resonance tomograph (MRT) in Europe at the University of Magdeburg and the interdisciplinary research structure at the Research Campus STIMULATE in the field of minimally invasive medical technology. In his function as working group leader "Neuro Clinic" at the Magdeburg research campus STIMULATE, he has already realized various projects for virtual treatment planning. In addition, Prof. Dr. med. Behme is conducting research together with other STIMULATE participants in the industry-and-clinic model project "SOFINA" on the optimization of fluid-dynamic treatment of intracranial aneurysms with neurovascular stents (so-called flow-diverters).
